Pediatric Allergy Covington
Pediatric  Allergy &  Nasal Symptoms Care in Covington, LA (St. Tammany Parish)

Children with allergies often deal with more than just a runny nose. Ongoing congestion, sneezing, itchy noses, mouth breathing, post nasal drainage, and poor sleep can affect how they feel at home, at school, and throughout the day. Kathy Chauvin, MD evaluates children with allergy related ear, nose, and throat symptoms and helps families better understand what may be causing their child’s discomfort.

Many parents are not sure whether their child’s symptoms are caused by allergies, frequent colds, sinus issues, enlarged adenoids, or a combination of several things. Dr. Chauvin takes a careful and individualized approach to evaluating nasal and airway symptoms in children so families can get answers and a clear plan for what to do next.

What Allergy Related Symptoms Can Affect Children?

Allergy related symptoms can show up in many ways. Some children have constant stuffiness or a runny nose. Others may deal with sneezing, throat clearing, itchy noses, post nasal drainage, or chronic mouth breathing. In some cases, allergy symptoms may also contribute to snoring, restless sleep, pressure in the ears, or ongoing irritation in the nose and throat.

Because many ENT symptoms overlap, it is important to look at the full picture. A child who seems to have constant congestion may actually be dealing with allergies, enlarged adenoids, recurrent illness, or another nasal issue. Careful evaluation helps determine what may be playing a role.

Common Allergy & Nasal Symptoms We Evaluate & Treat

Chronic Nasal Congestion
When your child always seems stuffy, allergies may be part of the reason. Ongoing congestion can affect breathing, sleep, and day to day comfort.

Runny Nose
A frequent runny nose can be caused by allergies, irritation, or ongoing inflammation in the nose. We look at symptom patterns and how often this is happening to help determine what may be contributing.

Sneezing
Repeated sneezing may be a sign of environmental allergies or nasal irritation. When sneezing becomes ongoing, it can be helpful to evaluate what may be triggering your child’s symptoms.

Itchy Nose
An itchy nose is a common allergy symptom in children and may happen along with sneezing or congestion. Some children rub their nose often without realizing it, especially when symptoms keep coming back.

Post Nasal Drainage
Drainage from the nose into the throat can lead to throat discomfort, coughing, or the feeling that something is always there. We evaluate whether allergies or another ENT concern may be contributing.

Mouth Breathing
Children with chronic nasal symptoms often start breathing through their mouth, especially at night. Mouth breathing can affect sleep quality and may be a sign that the nose is not allowing comfortable airflow.

Snoring
Allergy related congestion can make it harder for children to breathe well while sleeping.
